There seems to be a bunch of casting news coming out on this film. Here's the latest:

from MTV Movie Blog.

Breaking: Isla Fisher Joins Johnny Depp In ‘Rango’

Published by MTV Movies Team on Sunday, January 25, 2009 at 4:19 pm.

While talking to Isla Fisher at this weekend’s “Confessions of a Shopaholic” junket, MTV News learned about an exciting bit of casting; Fisher has joined Gore Verbinski’s 2011 animated adventure film, “Rango”.

Already set to star Johnny Depp as a household pet who goes on a fantastic adventure, the film reunites Depp with the “Pirates” director. Fisher is set to voice a lizard that Depp’s character
encounters on his travels.

In addition to Depp and Fisher, “Rango” stars Ian Abercrombie and Hemky Madera as well as the just-announced Abigail Breslin.

Fisher also noted that Verbinski is going for a completely original approach to animated filmmaking. The entire movie is being acted out live but, rather than serve as a base for motion capture or rotoscoping, the live version will be used to aide the animators in capturing the characters’ movements and facial features. While it’s not uncommon for a camera to be present in a recording booth for just that reason, Fisher seemed to imply that Verbinski’s approach is much more elaborate, something the director has hinted will allow an unprecedented on-screen focus on the actors.

Though you’d never be able to tell from her acting roles, Fisher’s real voice has a heavy Australian accent. Her performance in “Rango”, though, will be a brand-new voice altogether. Check back tomorrow for the video interview and a chance to hear it for the first time.

Definitely...I'm thinking maybe he'll sound similar to Victor in Corpse Bride...

FINALLY......... Some new news!!!!!!

From Kidscreen:

Edgy Depp humor gives Rango's CP program personality

by: Kate Calder

Feb 2, 2010

With the plethora of prequels, sequels and films based on nostalgic brands populating the kids

silver-screen space, it's not getting any easier to bow an original animated movie. Paramount, along with CGI animation studio Industrial Light Magic (ILM), however, is trying to forge new territory with Rango on-screen and at retail.

Scheduled to hit US theaters in March 2011, the film is introducing a brand-new character to kid movie-goers and Paramount is attempting to mount a comprehensive merchandising program around the property. The studio isn't leaving it all up to chance, though. It's tapped one of Hollywood's hottest talents, Johnny Depp, to voice lead character Rango, a clever and resourceful pet chameleon.

The quirky story revolves around Rango, a lonely chamelion who can play any role, but doesn't really know who he is. His journey takes him from the solitude of a comfortable suburban terrarium to the vastness of a Mojave desert. There, he stumbles into a town and ends up adopting a new persona - a vigilante lawman, also named Rango. Surrounded by a slew of crazy locals, Rango ends up discovering his inner-hero and his true self. The film also reunites Depp with Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski, who hatched the idea for the movie with Depp in mind.

Paramount Consumer Products executive director of marketing and retail development Darren Kyman is overseeing the L&M rollout. He says the boy-targeted movie is infused with Depp's signature dry-witted dialogue and mature social references that should appeal to an older set. "The style guide that we're in the midst of creating right now is a little bit more edgy and cool than those for your traditional animated family films."

A quote from an article on the BOX OFFICE MOJO website:

"Rango, an animated feature directed by Gore Verbinski and featuring the voice of his Pirates of the Caribbean star Johnny Depp, has been moved from Mar. 18, 2011 to Mar. 4, 2011. While this is only a minor change, it sets Rango up to face James Cameron-produced 3D thriller Sanctum and leaves Beastly and The Dark Fields to duke it out on March 18."

And you really need to check out the interactive website for Rango!!!! It's way cool!!! http://www.rangomovie.com/

I love Johnny doing the voice of Rango. :love4: Also, it's so cute seeing his character wearing a red tropical shirt. Even in an animated film, Johnny's sense of style comes through. I think it is appropriate he is playing a chameleon. When I look at all the pictures of him that I have and that are on the internet, he looks different in all of them. The only time he looks the same is if the photos are from one particular photo shoot or activity such as an award show. Bring on RANGO--I'm ready for him!!!! :lmao2:
